Vrtec Sentvid in Ljubljana, Slovenia (Main coordinator)
Vrtec Šentvid is a public preschool established by the City of Ljubljana Municipality. It provides the preschool education and care for children aged between 1 and 6. The programme based on the national curriculum for preschools. There are about 650 children in our preschool in 36 groups on 5 different locations in the northern area of Ljubljana. In all of the VRTEC ŠENTVID units, we offer all-day programs, which last up to 9 hours and include children from the age of one until the primary school age. Depending on the children's developmental characteristics, there are two main age groups: 1 to 3 year olds and 3 to 6 year olds. Children can be grouped in homogeneous, heterogeneous or mixed age classes, depending on their needs and conditions in the pre-school. Within the framework of the basic program according to the pre-school curriculum, we are offering various activities through the year: organizing celebrations, sports activities, field trips, and visits to galleries, museums and theaters, and also visits to the nursery by different artists. Periodically fire fighters, police officers and other service-members visit the nursery to teach the children about health, safety and life of the surrounding community. We take part in projects that connect nurseries across the country, including ecological projects, sports programs for children and pre-reading programs in co-operation with the local library...We offer some extra activities, e.g. a children's choir, an art workshop and exercise in pairs for parents and children. Our staff manage these activities; parents only contribute towards the cost of any necessary materials. For older children we organize winter skiing, summer seaside holidays and camps in the countryside or on farms. All of these activities carried out with parental agreement. There are activities, which are conducted by suitably qualified outsiders: afternoon sports and dance activities.
Gradinita cu Program Prelungit Sotron Botosani in Botosani, Romania
The Sotron Kindergarten Botosani is one of the top pre-school kindergartens in Botosani. Approximately 230-240 preschool children aged between 2,5 and 6-7 years old are educated annually at our kindergarten. They are organized into 8 groups. The kindergarten offers equal opportunities to all children that are enrolled, and each year a higher number of requests for enrollment are received, including children with specials needs, due to the quality of the teaching process at our kindergarten, which is well recognized in Botosani. The kindergarten has 17 well-trained teachers for pre-primary education, aged between 30 and 60. 13 teachers have been awarded grade I in the Romanian system and 4 younger ones have been awarded grade II so far. The auxiliary staff consists of 12 employees. The kindergarten has legal personality. On the premises, there are 8 spacious and well-equipped classrooms with appropriate furniture, a kitchen, nurses, laundry facilities, bathrooms and playground. The kindergarten has been equipped with computers and internet in each class through the financial contributions of the parents' association. Every year we organised numerous educational projects for children and we take part in symposium, regional and national exchanges, training for teachers, as well as collaborative projects with kindergartens in Moldova. For 23 years, the kindergarten Sotron Botosani has been applying the alternative educational plan Jena, accredited by the Ministry of National Education and the Institute of Educational

52 Primary school "Tsanko Tserkovski" in Sofia, Bulgaria
52nd primary school is a municipal school. It is situated in the city of Sofia, in the foothills of mount Vitosha, and is in close proximity of two of the sights of our ancient city - the Boyana Church and the Boyana waterfall. The church of St. Nicolas, the Wonderworker, was built and painted in the 13th century A.D. and is under the protection of UNESCO as a unique and historical monument with Renaissance murals. Our students 5-14 years of age are taught and educated. The total amount of students in our school are 550. 40 highly qualified teachers and educators, by the school psychologist and the head master, teach them. There are many extracurricular activities out of school, in the field of science, art, spatial orientation, healthy eating and way of leaving. Our students enjoy visiting theatrical club, the culture club, the historical club, as well as the Maths club, the football and the dance classes. Our school is situated in an ecological environment. Our main purpose is to teach our students and to prepare them for a successful start in life, to teach them think and overcome difficulties, as well as to develop their personality and their qualities. Our school was founded in 1845. Our present school building was built in 1960. There are 14 classrooms, laboratories and a classroom with interactive white boards in it. We have also got a beautiful big yard. The participation in this kind of project will give our students an additional incentive to increase their knowledge of Ecology, Language, ICT, Math and, last but not least, this project will increase their social skills and environmentally friendly attitude. We can contribute to this project with very good practical knowledge and innovative approaches and ideas. We are ready to share our experience and know-how with other partners. We would like also to learn new things to increase the personal development of teachers and raise the educational level of our institution.
CELFF Centro de Estudos Línguas Formação Fogueteiro SA - Colégio Guadalupe in Amora, Portugal
The Guadalupe School is a private establishment located in Pinhal da Aroeira, near Lisbon. It welcomes 810 students from 3 to 18 years old, 50 teachers and 40 staff members. Our school is located in the countryside, close to the Atlantic Ocean. Nature is everywhere, because it is located in a Portuguese Government protected landscape and it is part of the network of the Natural Parks of Portugal. Guadalupe School is very dynamic, because it proposes several extracurricular activities such as sports, dance and music. Foreign language learning from an early age and use of new technologies are highly promoted inside and outside classes. At Guadalupe School, there are disabled students who have special needs and for them, we have a team of psychologists and therapists who work with their teachers and families. For us, the development of mentalities in social and cultural relationships amongst the whole educational community is essential. Regarding issues related to the environment and ecology, we are part of a project under the responsibility of the Portuguese Ministry of Defense, whose objective is to publicize the hypercluster of the Sea and the impact it has on our culture and may have on our economy. In this project, we developed a set of activities, with a view to the knowledge of the sea, its richness and importance in a balanced environment. We have a biological garden project that we develop with our students from 4 to 18 years. The products are cooked in our canteen and are part of our meals.
Izmir Gaziemir Sabiha Gokcen Ilkokulu in Izmir, Turkey
Gaziemir Sabiha Gokcen Primary School was established in 1988 by the Turkish government in order to provide a Turkish education service in Gaziemir which followed the Turkish school curriculum. Children at school are immersed in Turkish culture and music, and parents find the school an exceptional resource for their children. Beside it is one of the most popular primary schools in the city of Gaziemir, it consists of 51 teachers,3 guidance specialists, 1000 students,19 classes with 3 classes,1 teacher's room, a bathroom for children, a kitchen and a playground in the schoolyard. It is also a state school, which has been active for about 11 years, and its distance to the international airport is 6 km. Gaziemir Sabiha Gokcen Primary School follows the best educational programs and the applications followed throughout the country and the world, which embraces the understanding of student-centered education. By the Turkish Education System, our educational program is developed considering students' academic, social, cultural and physical developments. We, as a school, try to carry out through modern teaching methods and project based learning in order to enhance individual differences and reveal students' creativity as well as to make the learning easier and more enjoyable. We feel and think that the engagement of all stakeholders are an important aspect of a successful school. We believe our school is a place where children, staff and families are valued and all work together to ensure that children are challenged academically, inspired creatively and supported and fostered in their emotional development. With the correct balance, our pupils develop the self-respect and self-esteem they need to succeed in life. Background of the project was our experience in working with the teachers who are eager to experiment with environment protection, environmental education and sustainability.
